To launch your first website you need to register a domain name – www.yoursite.com. It is also called url. It is your website address – your online identity. It is like your house number with which somebody can identify your locate your house.

Domain name registration – factors to consider:
1. Your domain name must make meaning to your audience.
2. It must be easy to pronounce.
3. It must be easy to remember – meaning the shorter the better.
4. Where possible a keyword rich domain will be great.
5. Avoid the use of hyphens in your domain. It has work in past.
6. Avoid companies that offers free domain name with paid hosting.
7. Register your domain with only accredited registrar. Just watch out for ICANN logo on the website.
8. Make sure you are able to manage your domain name.
There are several website where you can register domain name online. However, for this lesson I recommend 007names.com.
You will need credit card or prepaid debit card (visa or mastercard) to make make payment. If you don’t have card yet you can get one from zenithbank.com. Zenithbank.com provides a very good card for online shopping called websurfer card. You don’t need to have account with them. Go to their website, click on websurfer and follow the instruction there.
Alternatively, you can get card from fastecash.com. The only difference is that you can’t reload the card from fastecash.

Step by step domain name registration process:
1. Brainstorm some domain names and list them down.
2. Go to http://www.007names.com to purchase a domain name
3. You will see a search box. Type in your domain name or list of names you are considering the in search box. Just type the name without www or .com. if the name you are considering is www.puppyeven.com type in only puppyeven in the search box.
4. Then check .com extension box under the box by just clicking on the small box behind .com extension.
5. Be sure to purchase a “.com” domain name so that it’s easy for people to find.
6. Click on GO.
7. On the next page if the domain name is available click on ‘register now’.
7. Login to 007names.com with your username and password, if this is your first time purchasing a domain name on 007names follow the instruction on the page and create a new account.
8. When you login, choose the number of years you want. I will advice 1yr. Leave the name server info for now. When you sign up for web hosting service to host your domain, you will get dns info that you will type in the nameserver section. So leave it for now.
That’s it you now have a domain name.

When i search for the availability of the domain name, .com extension as been taken can i pick .org, or .mobi or .biz or .co.uk or .me. Whiich one is preferable or i should look for another name within the niche.
